The Foundation of Learning English
Though English has been studied from the high school level, even the primary school level, many people have not been able to master it.
Some of the complaints they often throw are their lack of understanding with the international grammatical structure. They consider the English grammar is too complicated, as well as the spelling and pronunciation.
In fact, these obstacles can be handled if they start trying to understand various forms of English words. That is the first key that should be mastered.
In the beginner stage, we need to first understand all forms of words. Begin by understanding the main forms of words (Parts of Speech) such as Verbs, Nouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, Pronouns, and others.
Please note, as well as the structure of some other languages like Indonesian, English also has a simple sentence structure consisting of Subject and Predicate.
The difference is that a predicate in English sometimes has to use auxiliary verbs when a sentence does not have a verb.
Consider some examples of the following sentence: I go. This is already a sentence because I (Subject) and the word go is the Predicate that uses Verb.
In English, the sentence becomes: I go, where I (Subject) and go (Verb). I'm rich. This sentence does not have a verb, in Indonesian The Subject may be immediately followed by the word rich which is an adjective.
In English, the sentence requires auxiliary verbs to be consisting of am, is, are so that the sentence becomes I am rich. Likewise if the Subject is followed by other words such as the Noun (He is a teacher), with Adverb of Place (we are here) and the Pronoun (That book is mine).
We also need to pay attention to each pair to be with Subject. Hence, we must know each of the Pronouns.
In English, the pronouns have a distinction based on Subject, Object, and Unity which also consists of two types: the word belongs to Noun (which is called as Possessive Pronoun) and which is not followed by a Noun (Personal Pronoun).
You should start re-browsing your English grammar books to look up the Pronouns. Try doing simple exercises first.
Once able to master it, it will be easier to study the Tenses (time adverbs) which are often considered as the most difficult to understand. Simply, in studying the tenses, what needs to be remembered is the change of verbs based on Past, Present and Future times.
Master the Present before attempting other forms. You will find it easier to understand past forms of auxiliary verbs like was & were as well as the participle forms that use Been and so on, we should learn them step by step.
In mastering the tenses, then we will play with logic because the tense phrases are considered as complicated as Past Perfect Tense and Past Continuous Tense ask us to pay attention to the sequence of an event or more.
Regarding the next constraint of spelling and pronunciation constraints is just a matter of routine. Practice makes perfect, lots of practice will make you better. So we need to frequently read and write in English.
It's okay if you make mistakes, as long as you try to evaluate the mistakes through a book or the help from friends or a teacher. It'll be a mistake if you never want to try it.
So does the pronunciation. Frequently watch English-language events or learn to use DVD guides, Youtube which are now widely circulated, or often practice every word and phrase that is mastered with your friends or teachers. It would be better if you take an English course where you have the opportunity to have many friends to practice with a teacher's guide.
Good luck … :)
